It was so nice to see that this model got so much attention! I loved all the feedback I gathered and the peak of it all was the invitation to join the CoolMiniOrNot 2010 Annual Publication.

I already ordered my copy! Can't wait to get my hands on it! :)

Death Guard Sternguard Veterans

Its been a long time I know, but I've been busy as hell and I still am as a matter of fact, so updates will be again slow for the next couple of weeks at least.

Anyways, I managed to get some pics of my latest unit that I made for my evergrowing Death Guard army. I finally managed to finish all the construction part for a 1750 pts army and now they are ready to have some paint on them!

The creation of the Sternguard really baffled me, as they should be significally different from the rest of the standard marines in the army, but still maintain my pre heresy theme. The answer on this problem came from a variation of sources. The models are based again on the wonderful Mk2 and Mk3 armors from Forgeworld but this time I also used heads and backpacks from MaxMini as well as some shoulderpads from Chapterhouse. Finally the bolters are again from the chaps at Forgeworld, as well as the lascannon!

To finish off the models, I used (as in with my whole army) Micro Art trench bases, which are really cool and give that extra theme and drama to the model!

So, thats it for now, hope that you like my conversions! Hopefully I will have something painted to show you by the next update :P

Mk1 Death Guard Rhinos

hello once again and this time I have another WIP update of my almost finished (the construction part) Death Guard Army!

I must say that I have managed to create the feeling of the army that I wanted and I am really happy with that.

This time I have my 2 Rhinos to share, primed and ready to be painted. I tried to make them as similar as possible, using of course a variety of bits with the most important one, the dozer blade taken from a small company (follow the link). I must say that I'm not very satisfied with the quality of the cast, but I love how it feels on the model so I can oversee some miscasts ...

More to come as well as a group shot of the army as I am preparing them for painting! :)

Finally, a great cover to an all time classic song from an all time classic band :) (I hope that this made some sense in a way :P )

Death Guard Pre-Heresy Terminators WIP

It has been a very busy week for my Death Guard project and I must say that it is coming along nicely! So far I have finished assembling and converting my Land Raider, a Razorback, a Predator the infamous Captain Nathaniel Garro and my latest additions to my evergrowing force is my first Mk2 Crusade and Mk3 Iron Armor Tactical squad (closeups will be uploaded when I'm done painting them) and my pre heresy assault Terminator squad.

These are extended conversions using the old plastic Terminators as a base, chopping off anything not needed, the heads are from Chapterhouse studios, the shoulder pads and the thunder hammers are from Maxmini (I love those guys :P ) and finally the shields are from Paulson's games and the bases from Micro Art (phew ...)

Ready to be primed :)

Captain Nathaniel Garro WIP

Hello once again!

I have been working on some new army lists to play and I have decided to change my gaming style completely. On to the drawing board again and this time I decided to create a sternguard based list with Pedro Kantor.

This list works perfectly with the Death Guard project I'm currently working on so all I had to do is to find a model to represent Pedro Kantor.

I have always been a HUGE fan of Nathaniel Garro. I love its tragic figure and the way it always was an alien part in the Death Guard legion but at the same time a stern and devote soldier to the Emperor and Mortarion. Follow the link to read more about him!

It was a great opportunity to field him as a Kantor "count as", only problem was that I needed him to be WYSIWIG which was a little against the fluff.

In the end I decided to use a magnificent model, part of the masters of the chapter set mostly because of its stern and stoic pose and its MkIV armor and the broadsword that was a part of Garro's fluff.

On the other hand, I needed to show the power fist and the storm bolter that was part of Kantor's arsenal. The fist was already part of the model I chose so that was easy. The storm bolter was created using a plastic storm bolter and an ammo feed belt I had in my bits box (yea, I know, my bitz box is kinda big :P )

Last but definitely not least, the eagle above his head, protecting him from the enemies! This was a conversion that I did using various bits from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue. It serves both the fluff and the Iron Halo rules that Kantor has!

I forgot to take a photo of him before he was primed though, I hope you can get an idea of the various conversion work done.

So there you go, I would really like to hear your comments as always! :)

Imperial Fists Vulcan Finished

I have just finished painting (at last :P ) my Imperial Fists Vulcan Conversion just in time for tommorow's Tournament! I am happy with the way he turned out, this model was oozing with detail and character and I had a blast painting him!

Vulcan Imperial Fists Conversion

Hello everyone! Its so good to be back on my table and this time I decided to build something that I'm going to need for an upcoming tournament!

I have been playing with my favorite character, none other than Captain Darnath Lysander of course for quite some time now and I decided I needed a change. A Vulcan army list was the next thing that could suit my style of playing... the difficult part was that Vulcan is part of the Salamanders range, so I had to do something that could fit in my sea of yellow :P

Back when Forgeworld started messing around with Badab wars, they released this glorious model and it actually hit me that I should use it as a base to convert to an Imperial Fists version of Vulcan, mainly due to the bad ass mounted flamer that he has...!

For those of you who haven't yet understood the base of the model, yes its Lugft Hyron of the Astral Claws :P

Main problem I faced with the conversion was how on earth I would do the spear, but then along came MaxMini as always to solve my bits problems. The head is also from the MaxMini range of products and I think it fits nicely. The conversion is finished with some of the great Forgeworld photo etched fists that have proven so useful in the past too!

So off to the painting table, what do you think?

Yes I know, its been a long while since I have posted anything completed here... but as I have already said, life is always giving you things to get your hands full and this whole last month hasn't been an exception to that...

BUT I am ready to make it up for you with 2 brand new paintjobs I have just finished for a painting contest organized by the Greek Warhammer Forum and I would really like to get your feedback as they are painted for a contest as I said.

Ork Big Mek with Custom Force Field

This guy is one of my favourite GW sculpts and I really just needed a chance to get my brushes on him. I really had a blast painting him. I would love to see your votes on CMON as well!

Skaven Warlord Queek Headtaker

Another great mini, although I was kinda connected emotionally to the older version of him, I got him for a bargain and of course I couldn't resist some skaven painting. Maybe this would be the kick for me to get involved with my eternally building Skaven army again, who knows ... In the meantime, leave him a vote as well! ;)

Inspiration for these guys (especially for the ork) came out of these AWESOME band! They're stuck in repeat the past few days...

I have been quite busy lately with work as always but I have found some time to paint and the results will be shown soon enough.

Death Guard Razorback Mk1

Hello to everybody!

Another post from my growing Death Guard army (well, the armored part at least) and this time I decided to build a Razorback. As with all my Mk1 builds so far, I tried to stick to the original design as much as possible, but this time I made one small deviation from the original plan. For those that remember, the old school razorback featured a space marine gunner instead of the fully automated targeting system that it has now. I kinda prefer the newer version on this aspect and I tried to include it in my build.

So there it is! As always I would be happy to hear your comments remarks and questions! :)

Death Guard project continues... Mk1 Predator

Hello again!

I have been busy as hell these days with work and unfortunately my posts were kinda scarce but I have managed to finish my 1st Predator for my new Death Guard army. I haven't finalized on an Army List yet but I am thinking of using a lot of these guys...

Anyways, the conversion is mostly based on the good old Predator Destructor kit but again using a wide variety of bits from various sources. I would be happy to answer to any question you may have!

Just a quick post today to let you know that I have been really busy with work lately and updates on my Death Guard project will be slow. I have almost finished my first Predator (yes, I'm planning to use a lot :P ) so I will have some updates maybe on weekend!

The dawn of a new project... Pre-Heresy Death Guard...and my Mk1 Land Raider

Yes... I know... I am a couple of years late to begin a pre-heresy army. It's been quite a while from the Black Library releases and the fad is fading away... there are even quite a few great Death Guard armies out there so I'm not putting anything innovative or original out...

BUT...

...I just LOVE Death Guard... I love their fluff from my origins as a wargamer... I have been playing chaos from the early 3rd ed. just to be able to field plague marines... the idea of making a pre-heresy death guard army buzzes through my head since gw released the atrocity that is the latest chaos marines codex... if I can't field my beloved plague marines as chaos anymore, I will as loyalists ... !

It took me some time. It had to be perfect though... and the biggest problem was the armor. I know there are a lot of pre-heresy armies out there but most of them use the current issue of power armor. I wanted to look and feel 30K ... I wanted mk2 armor ... and the gods of Forgeworld heard my pleads...

The final piece of the puzzle was in place! Now, all my archaic looking vehicles could fit with an equally archaic looking armor. And what best way to begin my project, than my beloved Mk1 Land Raider

I know that this model has a love-hate factor to it. I definitely love it. For many years that was the iconic image of 40K vehicles (at least for my eyes) only to be overthrown by its successor...

I had 2 major problems with this model though. its old age and the numerous layers of paint that has been applied over the 15 years of its existence in my gaming world. Step one was the paint removal. To be honest, I didn't have the best results but it got to a point that could be repainted and I'm satisfied with that. It will feature major weathering anyways so some minor paint remains will blend with that process hopefully...

Step 2 was the conversion job... as I have said in the past, my conversions use a rather large pool of bits that come from an even larger variety of sources. Many of them are recognizable, others are a little more hard to see.. the pics don't help at all, got them with my cellphone sorry. Better pics when painted although I will post some more converted vehicles before I do that! I would be happy to answer to any questions that you may have concerning the bits.

So there you have it, the first step on building an army I always wanted to have! I would love to hear your comments and remarks.

Hello once again!!

Holidays are over for me! I had a blast this year for sure and now I'm full of a bucketload of new ideas and energy to fulfill my older ones.

One such idea buzzes through my mind for quite some time now. I have been tired to play with the same army for the past year or so, and I decided to build a new one, an army that I always wanted to play but I only recently got the resources to put it together!

It is a major project that involves a lot of conversion work. I have just finished the first vehicle of my army but I don't think that I'm going to show you just yet :P

So get a first glimpse of it, the older ones that read this might recognize it ;)

So, here you go... I'm waiting for your ideas on what this could be and soon it will be revealed :)

...and with the greek temperatures hooked to 35 degrees and rising, there is nothing better than some greek desert rock to get things going in the desert ;)

Flesh Tearers Captain ~ Games Day 2008 Space Marine with thunder hammer

Hello again!

This is another piece I finished for the Flesh Tearers commission I have taken. The model is the Games Day 2008 Space Marine with thunder hammer although it features a head swap in request of the client. (although I'm not really sure where the head is from, I guess its from the Fantasy range)

The model is really nice, I didn't try anything fancy here in paint scheme, just the standard Flesh Tearers scheme. I also tried some NMM and some glowing effect on the thunder hammer.

Imperial fists Master Of The Forge on bike WIP

Hello once again!

Thought I would take some time off my commissions (although I'm also working on a Flesh Tearers Captain, more on that on future posts) and give my Imperial Fists army some much needed attention.

I have tried using Master Of the Forge with a Conversion Beamer riding a bike and I must say that his long range (or should I say extreme range) killing capacity is lovely! I have therefore decided to make a model to field in my games, but many problems have risen for that, mainly finding the correct weapon for the conversion.

After a quick research, I have found that the original conversion beamer during the good old Horus Heresy days looked more like a Plasma Cannon (the first gun on the picture below). Then it evolved into something really unique in shape, making it rather difficult to convert...

After quite a long research and digging in my bits box I was ... well stuck. There was no way I could just kitbash something like this without looking way too overdone and I wasn't really ready to sculpt or make something from scratch.

But then, when I was browsing my beloved blogosphere... revelation!!

Chapterhouse studios was a company no stranger to me, I have purchased their lovely pre heresy jump packs for a future project (keep an eye for this as well) and now this release was just perfect for what I was looking for.

The kit arrived quite fast having in mind that we had an ocean dividing us. Lots of flash to clean and preparation work to be done but nothing a sharp knife can't handle.

I ended up doing some conversion work to the kit as well, because I would prefer the beamer mounted on the bike itself, not on the backpack.

For the techmarine I used the old metal body from the Blood Angels command boxed set and some legs from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue. Some photo etched imperial fists symbols would give that much needed character to the model.

Finished the model with a Micro Art base. I haven't glued the gun for obvious reasons. Ready to be primed! I would really like to hear what you think on this one. Watch this space for more updates!

Flesh Tearers Terminator Librarian finished

Hello once again!

Following my previous post I have finally finished another commission piece.
The Space Hulk Librarian in Terminator armor is a wonderful model. The weird color schemes continue and this time the client wanted his Librarian to be white to differ from the other character models in his Flesh Tearers army! Apart from the un-fluffness of the scheme I think that it suits him well and overall it came out nicely!

Yup, another commission post and another weird paint scheme as demanded from the client! This time is the Terminator Librarian from the Space Hulk board game. I must admit that it really suits him though ;)

Greetings to all!

Its nice to finally get to have the chance to spend some time for your hobbies after a large break. I have finally managed to finish this great model from Forgeworld that I had shown you some WIPs some time ago. I am quite satisfied with the result. I have to say that I'm also in love with the model. Its the single most detailed model I have ever worked with (although I am really looking forward on working with this guy as well).

Anyways, enough with the babbling, on to the pics

As always photos are not the best... I must stop painting so many red models as it is a pain to take pictures. Hopefully I will get better results with my Imperial Fists :P

As I am looking again at the model, I can't help myself making the comparison with the new GW's model range, Citadel Finecast . There is a huge gap in quality of the material, no doubt about it but do you think that GW will ever produce such detailed models now that it has the potential?

Last but not least, my music inspiration for this piece would be something different this time (I really don't know how I got inspired by this song for the particular model but inspiration comes from the weirdest places...)

well, another commission and the customer is always right! This time I got my hands on this magnificent sculpt of the Red Scorpions Chief Librarian from Forgeworld and the request was to paint him as a Flesh Tearers libbie. The paint scheme was also specific!

so many lovely little details on this one, its painting 2 models at once! Hopefully I will get him finished in the Weekend, so stay tuned for the final pics!

Hi there! I'm posting this in order to bring some life to my blog that has been inactive for quite some time now. I have been busy as hell with work the past month and unfortunately this has yet again held me back on my hobbies...

When the dust is settled I will hopefully finish my PIP Commission Librarian (yes, I'm working on another one :P )

And as it happens with my latest posts, I add an appropriate track to accompany them! ;)

Hopefully I will be back with more painted stuff pretty soon! Back to work for me now... :/

Flesh Tearers Chaplain finished!

Greetings!

Coming up from my previous post, I have just finished the Flesh Tearers Chaplain I have been working on for the past few days. Following my client's requests I changed some things and added some more details as you can see compared to the previous WIP pics. The main change was the glow in the eyes. I had a feeling that it wasn't right and I couldn't get it done correctly. After many tests and failed attempts I decided that the problem is the helmet, it has no distinct eyes to work on the glow effect so therefore it fails to be accurate enough... so I scrapped it altogether and returned to the previous scheme.

Continuing from my last post where I accompany my posts with a music track that accompanied and inspired my painting on the figure, this time music is dark, gloomy and slow... and I feel that it fits the model's character perfectly! Enjoy (well at least those that are into this kind of music, but I think we all like Black Sabbath don't we? :P )

I am quite happy with the result, hope that you like him as well! I would love to hear from you as always and of course see your votes on CoolMiniOrNot

Flesh Tearers Chaplain WIP

Hello once again!

I am currently working on yet another commission, this time its a fully converted Chaplain.

The conversion is courtesy of my client, a great one and so much fun to paint by the way!

Ah, and for those that wonder about the change from the usual Blood Angels, the conversion started as a BA Chaplain, but changed camps somewhere in the middle... :P

Still have some things to finish, probably in a couple of days I will have the final pics!

One last thing that I will experiment with my blog, starting from this post onwards is adding a music track to accompany my posts. I thought of this as a nice way to share with you people the music that accompanied me during my painting and maybe the tunes that inspired me.

Züül is an American Heavy Metal band that - believe it or not - released this song last year... talking about a giant leap in time for those familiar with this kind of music. The title also played its part in the degree of inspiration for me as well ;)

Sergeant Torias Telion ~ The Imperial Fists Version

Hello everybody!

Its been quite a while since my last post but here I am with another finished model...

I have been playing quite a lot with my Imperial Fists lately and I have decided to include Sergeant Torias Telion in my list. He is a really handy upgrade for any scout squad and he has served me well so far.

Only problem was that the model (and the fluff of the model for that reason) is an Ultramarine. As with any other characters in the Space Marines codex, that are not Imperial Fists (thats everyone except Lysander actually :P) I have to covert something to play as a "count as" so in this case I had 2 options. One was to create a completely new model from scratch. The other was the one that I eventually followed, take the original Telion model and make it an Imperial Fist Sergeant! I followed this solution since I really like Telion's model, although it eventually was proven to have a really bad casting quality.

After filing off the Ultramarines symbols, I used some photo etched fists to give him the needed flavor and painted him in the appropriate colors. Nothing really fancy in terms of converting but I didn't feel he needed it anyway! Placed him in a MicroArt Old Factory base and voila, ready to lend his expertise to the young and inexperienced scouts!

Blood Angels Furioso Dreadnought Finished!

Helo again!

I just couldn't let this bad boy WIP for long and got it finished today! I have tested myself to several new things on this one, mainly ways to improve my weathering techniques. I am overall happy with how it turned out (and it seems that my client-friend is happy too :) ). I especially like the reds (although AGAIN the pic is not the best I could get... this red is the biggest pain in a photographers life I'm sure about it!).

So there it is, finished and waiting for your comments and votes!

Blood Angels Furioso Dreadnought WIP

Hello again!

I would like to share some of my work again with you people, this time is a WIP of yet another Blood Angels piece, a Furioso Dreadnought.

This is not the new model as many would have thought, its a conversion using parts of the plastic Venerable and some Forgeworld claws and other BA bits.

I paint so many Blood Angels lately that people may think I actually play with them, but they are all commission pieces. I always liked BAs though, for their rich fluff and their paintsceme so it comes natural to me to have fun painting them even though they aren't my models.

Anyways, enough with the chatter and on to the pics...

There are quite a few things to finish, mainly the claws which I haven't yet decided the colorscheme (maybe some suggestions would be nice of you!) and of course the base.

So what do you think? Am I in the right track here?

Our new Warhammer table and Terrain!

Hello again! This time I would like to share with you the progress of a table that I am building with a friend.

It has always been a dream to build my own table one day, in a place where I could spread all my bits and pieces of modelling activity. A place where I could create all these terrain pieces I always wanted and play battles the way I would like.

This childhood dream has finally come to life in the past few months where I am in the process of building a Warhammer table along with a friend.

You could try and guess what is the next terrain piece prepared on the back table...not the big board, that is something for future posts to discuss... :P

As you can see we've started by creating a generic table with lots of woods and hills, some craters and of course the regular ruins. I am really pleased with the way these pieces came out and I can't wait to play my first battle in it! Unfortunately most pics are not so good as they were taken in a hurry but I will definitely get some more good shots when I get the chance! Hopefully this will happen tomorrow so keep an eye for an update, maybe a battle report but definitely some pics.

So what do you think so far? Any terrain ideas you would like to share?

I always felt that my Imperial Fists Captain hadn't got the love that it deserved! It was the model that started it all since I saw its release back in the days of 4th edition... I still think that its one of the best models this company ever produced and it was enough to motivate me build a whole army based on it.

...so I thought that now that I am playing with my photo-settings it would be the perfect chance to take some new shots of this old paintjob of mine and get some feedback again.

Everything in this model screams determination and righteousness. Hopefully this would make me motivated to finish my Terminators at last... As always your comments are more than welcome as well as your votes

Hello everybody!

It's been quite a while from my last post but real life messed with my hobbies quite well and I had minimal time to spend with anything other than sleeping :P

Anyways, I managed to finish another piece of my Blood Angels commission and this time I also tried something different with photographing, I took a full squad shot, something that was made possible with my new lightbox...

You may have noticed that I have posted the sergeant with the hand flamer again but since I'm playing around with new photo settings I thought I should try and take some more pictures of him along with the whole squad.

I must say that although I am finally starting to get the results I like, red is a true pain in the a** to get it right...
I really love my new background though...!

Hello everyone!

I was playing around my new lightbox and digged up an old paintjob I did a couple of years ago. Its a really great model from Masquerade miniatures and it was a really nice practice on skintones. I think this model is full of character and it tells a story on its own. I just added a bloody bucket and a greenstuff cloth to add to the narrative.

What do you think on the photos? I think that I definately found the proper background though...

Hello everyone!

I really hope that you are having a great 2011 so far! I am hurdling myself to finish my Imperial Fists for a tourney that will take place next week and this is my latest creation. The Land Speeder Storm is something I popped in my list really at the last minute and so far it has served me well denying objectives mostly... its a good value for points plus I really like the model which is an added bonus for my Army List making!

I really like the feeling of this model, it kinda screams Fast Attack more than anything in the Space Marines army. I also tried a little OSL effect on the turbines on the rear, unfortunately the picture doesn't help to see it properly.

Anywayz, I would be really happy to hear your comments and see your votes on CoolMiniOrNot as always!

Hello! I have just received my Lightbox and I had some pictures taken to see how it works. Its quite big, meaning that I can finally take all my big stuff photographed but I have to play some more with the camera and the light!

This is one of my latest paintjobs, and the result of my new photo settings. I have to make a new background though, until then the pure white will have to do.

Hi all!

I just wanted you to know that I have bought a new lightbox and I have halted all new photo taking waiting for its arrival. I'm kinda sick on how bad my pictures are and I am trying to improve them, so I thought that this little fella would actually help...

I have told you that I was preparing another post from my finished models in my Imperial Fists Army and here I am again with another Land Raider, the classic version this time!

This one features more Forgeworld goodness in the form of extra armor and Terminator markings in the doors. I just love these upgrade packs, they give so much flavour to an already great model that the Land Raider is.

Hopefully I'm done with the Land Raiders for the time being and I will focus on finishing more stuff from the army, mainly the Terminators that definately need some love! I have also almost finished my Land Speeder so keep an eye for this little bugger too!

Imperial Fists Land Raider Crusader

I finally managed to get some time to take some pictures of my finished Imperial Fists models starting with the Land Raider Crusader. Great model and really fun to paint, I kinda don't like the fact that its the older metal version because the hurricane bolters were a pain to assemble and they don't have any kind of friction holding them in place resulting on a floppy sponson movement every time I try to move the model around, but I really like the side winged scull motif.

The model also features the ForgeWorld Imperial Fists doors and I think that these doors are a must to every Space Marines Vehicle around. I really love the way they transform the model to a shrine!

So I would really like to hear your comments and of course if you have some time to leave me a vote as always on CoolMiniOrNot . Don't forget to keep an eye on my other Land Raider later on this week when I get the chance to take some more pictures!

And thus another Tournament Sunday ends leaving me with the sweetest memories! As promised I am back to post some great pics from yesterday's Genocide Chronicles that I took part with my Imperial Fists and my new 40K friends.

3 great battles, 2 victories, 1 draw and a helluva time was yesterday's aftermath. Great place to play, wonderful terrain (although a little scarce on some places) and great gamers to interact! Anything more for a wargamer to ask? Let me give some details on the whole event

1st battle was with the new Dark Eldar and I was kinda worried on how to face them since I knew but little on this list...Loads of witches on fast raiders, Helions with the new Baron fella, loads of dark lances and Mr Absdurbael (I hope to spell it right... :P ) himself leading the fray! The highlights on this battle have to be my scouts that took down the 2 Talos before they could cause any harm and of course Lysander that eventually took Absdurbael down in the last turn of close combat. Unfortunately got carried away by the massacre in the close combat and failed to capture the opponent's objective and the game ended up in a tie... (although I won in VPs count).

I must say that the terrain was also really great! Although impractical in gaming terms in some occasions, it really got me into the mood!

2nd Battle was with Daemons. Thats an army that I know some things about and I was kinda confident when the matchups came along. But a game is a game and nothing is certain on how it will end up. The list was quite powerful with 2 Bloodthirsters, Kharnak and a pack full of hounds horrors, flamers and 2 Daemon Princes... I was really hoping for the Chaos Gods to continue being fickle as they were usually with this Codex! The game had its ups and downs with things being really balanced in most parts of it but I managed to turn the tides on the last turn scoring 3 more kill points and winning eventually a rather insecure game. This should teach me being overconfident...

I should also point out the fact that the Daemon army was a real beauty to see. Really well painted and I really enjoyed playing with it, no wonder it won the best painted army award in the end (more on this later)

3rd Battle was with the Eldar. I don't know how this happens but it seems that in EVERY Tournament no matter how many players are playing with them, I ALWAYS get to play with at least 1 Eldar army... it is as someone sets this up and I must say that my statistics are not the best against the pointed ears... but this time it was different. A rather unusual army list consisting of loads of jetbikes, shining spears (boy I haven't seen those fellas in ages) fire dragons, dire avengers and the Avatar. The highlight of this match has to be the lonely Terminator that after successfuly survived for 4 rounds of combat with the Avatar, eventually hammered the Eldar god to the ground! Victory for me again and a surpisingly easy one as well... I'm slowly starting to get over my Eldar phobia.

Overall our team finished 4th with a point difference from the third one, really nice result considering the fact that we had to face some of the top players in Greece!

Last but not least was the best painted army contest. I was nominated for best painted although my army is far from finished, I had some units just painted the minimum 3 colours for the requirements of the tournament. I lost to the great daemon army that I played with in the 2nd battle, a fair result. Hopefully when I finish mine I will get it next Tourney ;) Here are some pics of the finalists for the best painted army;

Hello once again! This will be a short one just to let everyone know that I am still alive and that I am currently painting like a maniac (hmm that one sounded a lot like Metallica's all time favourite... ) to try and finish my Imperial Fists army till Sunday... yup you heard it right, there is a great tourney gig going on that I will take part in and I am trying to have a Tournament legal painted army! Yup I know that its a really big task but I am kinda moving fast. So far both Land Raiders are finished and I am in a good place with my Land Speeder, the Termies and the Drop Pod... I promise that as soon as the Tourney is over I will post pics of my Army as well as the games of the Tournament as always, so give me a couple more days!

Skaven Plague Furnace finished!!

How many of you are familiar with Murphy's Law ? The main concept of this law is that nothing is as easy as it seems, and it definately applies with this model too!

Following my latest post I have decided to rebuild my Skaven army and I thought that this would be a somewhat easy task, having all this wood and metal and skaven fur to paint... little did I know when I was undercoating this monstrosity.

Clan Pestilens was always one of my favourite skaven clans. My army lists always include at least one unit of crazed plague monks. The latest book of Skaven gave me one more good reason to include even more of these fellas, and that was the almighty Plague Furnace! I've played several games with this crazy warmachine and I must say that each game would manage to surprise me in a good way. But I always included it as a proxy, using the screaming bell model, although I had the kit laying around somewhere in my closet.

First of all I must say that this is a magnificent model. It has to be one of the best plastic kits GW has ever produced. Everything sceams in detail and motion. Its like watching an animated film come to life. But all this come with a price in terms of difficulty. When I realised all the amount of tiny details this model had, I knew that this wouldn't be as easy as I originally thought it would be, but then again, I always loved pesky and difficult models. Either way this would be a centerpiece to the army and it deserved all the attention I could give it!

So here it is in all its fuming glory... the Plague Furnace;

I am generally happy with how the model turned out. As always I am not happy with the picture but I think I am improving in this field, hopefully I will manage to get decent pictures one day :P

revisiting the Fantasy chain of events... one rat at a time!

Do you get that feeling once in a while that some seemingly different events can lead to a chain effect and eventually lead you to get decisions that you wouldn't otherwise?

Don't get so serious all of a sudden, this blog won't change its subject to some philosophical rumbling of some sort ... but I just had to share the chain of events that lead to what seems to be my next model (or rather project) to come...

Firstly I have to say a great thanks to PapaJJ for his great Skaven (and ork) gift a couple of months ago, that really got me again on to thinking more out of my 40K box, more on this in future posts...

Secondly, last Saturday I decided to dig my Fantasy books and stuff and arrange a battle with a good friend of mine. Its been quite a while since the new edition hit the shelves but this would be only my 3rd battle with the new rules This would be a great 2000 pts one since the previous 3 were only 500pts test battles. Anyways, as you may have already known, I have quite a few Fantasy armies (including a massive Empire army and a large Tomb Kings force) but my big Fantasy love is the Skaven! There is a post somewhere around here that shows my old skool Doomwheel. So here I was, leaving my commission work for a while, digging out my Skaven Army Book making army lists ... and it was fun!

The next day I went to play the battle against my friend's daemons. I must say that I absolutely loved that game and I totally love the new rules! The result isn't that important, just the fact that it really got me into Fantasy stuff again and that I killed my third BloodThirster in 2 different game systems in 2 weeks time :P :P

Last but definately not least ... was this :

That was it... next thing I knew, I was hanging in my closet trying to find that order I did back then when the Skaven Army book was out!

Oh yes, the vermin tide is coming... and it will be nasty!! XD

Blood Angels Vanguard Veteran Sergeant with Jump Pack

Project Blood Angels is slowly but steadily progressing and I have just finished another addition to my friend's army, the direct only Vet sergeant with jump pack!

Its a wonderful model with clear details and really fun to paint. I have some objections with the sculpt of the head but other than that I think its a wonderful addition to a BA army. I didn't try anything fancy here, just some extreme highlights on the power sword which I thing turned out ok.

Again photographing red turns out to be a nightmaire, the highlights are vanished... :( but you can get an idea...

EDIT: Taking the advice of Antipope I shot the model again and I think that the result is far better now! Many thanks for you tip! XD

Another Tournament is over

... and what a great experience... with 34 people attending and loads of fun in a great place!

3 Battles were played in total, I got to play with Eldar (I can't seem to get away from them in tournaments...) Daemons and Imperial Guard. I got 2 victories with Eldar (yupeeee!!!) and Daemons (Ghaz got the title Daemonhunter from this battle, see the pic below) but got beaten by the Guard, from a very powerful and fast list with Vendettas and loads of Stormtroopers and veterans and of course meltas...!

One Bloodthirster down... 1 more to go :P

3 Great games and one helluva day full of gaming!! Can't wait for next time!! XD

Photographing minis

Hello again!

From the Warp Blogspot will have a collaborative post running on photographing miniatures so I have decided posting an article on how I photograph my minis.

I must say that my photographing skills are rubbish. Only recently I have managed to start playing somewhat succesful with my camera's settings and stop shooting everything in auto... The past years I have gathered ideas and tutorials from around the internet and I have narrowed to some things that I think work for me

The most important thing in my opinion is the original lighting... no matter how great skills you have in Photoshop, you cannot create a great pic out of a crappy shot. Therefore I decided to create my own lightbox...

This is how my lightbox looks like

As you can see, its just an ordinary cardboard box. I think that the size of the usual A4 paper box is the best for a similar lamp setting. For bigger boxes you would need bigger lamps I guess...

Anywayz, I took the box and created square holes in each side of it. Next thing is to cover the holes with white tissue paper (any kind of semi transparent kind of paper would do actually) so as to blend the light smoothly. Just leave the front hole free (obviously...)

Next thing is to start playing with the light. I got 2 lamps loaded with 80Watts daylight bulbs which are pretty much ok although I should start trying using a 3rd one I guess, or stronger bulbs. I have arranged them in this way, although again I'm open to suggestions here as it seems that there is room for improvement.

Finally I have printed several backgrounds with my latest one being this brownish that you all see featured in my latest minis. This is something personal for everyone but I feel that 2 colour gradients work better.

I have also experimented with texture patterns as the mettalic plate that you see in the back of the brown one, I have the feeling that it isn't that effective as it distracts the eye from the centerpiece of the photo which is the model itself.

Hello everyone!!

I have been telling you about my work on Astorath the Grim the past couple of weeks. Well I have managed to pull out some time and finish him (this really sounded like Mortal Kombat ... :P) So here he is...

I really like the way the scenic base from Micro Arts blended with the dynamic pose of the model harmonically. I am happy with the final result, really nice model and very detailed. So I would be happy to hear your thoughts and opinions on him.

I am continuing my work on the rest of the Blood Angels project, more updates soon !

One final thing, FTW blog roll (link to the sidebar...) have started a collaborate post on photographing minatures based on the combined experience of all the bloggers out there. I will be posting my way soon, although its far from being perfect, I think it quite works some times (not really happy with the photo of Astorath though... :( )

...and what a great time it was!! Our team placed second overall (I remind you it was a doubles tournament) and I must say I played one of the best battles with a rather interesting Ork army. As you can see from the pics it was a fully blown up Nob Biker Speed Freek WAAAGH!! with a double Warboss mayhem!!

Uhh... sir I think we may have a problem....!

It was so tense trying to take all these double wounded T5 frenzied killing machines, it almost made me homesick of my own orks ...

Things didn't go so well for my Termies lurking in the Raider (mainly due to my inability to roll my 2+ Armor saves... :S ) but the tides of the battle eventually turned mainly due to the great firepower that we had...

Great stuff... thats why I love this game so much!!

Hello everyone! It's been quite a while but I've been busy as hell for the past couple of weeks and the scedule won't seem to change for the next 2 as well so updates will be scarce...

On the bright side, I've got 2 more commission jobs settled, A Blood Angels and an Eldar army. I've started working on some Swooping Hawks as you can see from the picture

I have also started work on the Blood Angels part of the commission with a wonderful new model, Asorath the Grim. Pics of him soon as I am ready to finish him, most probably today!

Last but not least, tommorow I will be attending a doubles 40K Tournament and I will give you a report as soon as I can, so keep an eye on this space.

Hi!! I am currently on vacation as I have mentioned in my previous post. Just letting you guys know that my painting projects are currently on hold for as long as I am wetting my feet in the waters of Lefkada, an island of the Ionian Sea in Greece. Wingblades project finished!

Hi there! I was busy finishing one of my commission projects, the Wingblades. The customer wanted to create a renegade chaos SM army BUT with no chaos symbols whatsoever and Dark Angels iconography. This is one of the final pieces of the army, the converted Lord from Grey Knight Captain Stern and various bits from the DA sprue.

The pic is a little rubbish but my camera is off limits at the moment so my cell phone camera has to do... to give you an idea at least...

Hello there! I am currently working on my Imperial Fists army and I must say that things are progressing well! I had the old version of the Vindicator model and I decided to upgrade the looks of it by using the newer version of the Rhino. I thought that the process would be an easy one but there were quite a few things that needed modding... eventually after qute a few hours filling, sanding and cutting the end result looks something like this:

Hey there! I was on a doubles tourney last week with my Imperial Fists. Played with my friend with Blood Angels and the thing went really well. This situation got me into seriously building my Fists army starting with the Land Raiders :P

Got myself some stuff and hopefully you will see the results somewhere in this space soon.

I've got another tourney on Saturday, this time based on the Clash of Heroes scenario from the brand new Battle missions book. Can't wait for this one, you'll have full scale report this time ;)

Tourney time again!

Hey everybody! Just returned from a local 40K tournament and took the 1st place with me. I have to say that it was a real pleasure all the games and I had so much fun!

The best thing about this tourney was Snikrot! I must say that this guy just won a permanent place in my roster, at least for some games to come. Not the monster killing machine that one would expect but its a pain in the **s for the opponent and he killed more than his point cost in every game... and he is a ninja ork! what more can an ork player ask for? :P

Battlefortress WIP Part 4, time to throw some paint...!

Hi there everyone! I thought that I shoould post the next part of my Battlefortress WIP and this time is painting!

I thought that from the way the construction went and the shape of the vehicle finalized to a racing overall pattern (you know with the racing fin at the back - hope that I got this correct :P ) I thought that a GO FASTA red Evil Sunz pattern with some nice flames would be appropriate! So there it is, the monstrosity painted up!

Still there are quite a few things to be touched up and finish the project but more on this on the final part of this WIP marathon! :P

Ork Battlefortress part 2

As promised, here are some more WIP pics on my Battlefortress. The thing with this construction (as with all of my constructions as a matter of fact :P ) is that I didn't have a specific plan in my mind so I cannot post a reliable step by step guide. You'll have to figure things out of the pictures.

To make things a little bit easier I have dug out some older WIPs (before the armor plates were fixed) to give you an idea what I mean.

As you can see I have used a ton of bits from various sources including some 1:35 kits (the track system of a Sherman, a british WWII transport (I always forget its name :S) and some Panther tracks (kudos to the Antipope that figured out how I have created the deffrolla with the upside tracks. The thing that he couldn't figure out (and I bet noone can) is the fact that the main body of the deffrolla is taken from AXE Deodorant bottles :P

yes, its the top of the bottle ... :P

Hmmm, what else I can remember, ah yes... There is also a toy bulldozer in it, its the yellow parts and I must say that it fit the built perfectly.

Hello! long time no see but this time I decided to go with something big. Well actually it's a project that I have finished for quite a long time now but since then a lot of things have changed to the actual model so I think that its still something new... anywayz enough with the blabbering and on to the pics:

These are some WIP pictures of my interpretation of an Ork Battlefortress. I had built it as a Battlewagon back in the day but when GW's weedy one came out I decided to use it as a Battlefortress instead.

Hey, I just wanted to say that I'm not dead or sthg, I just have my hands full atm with other stuff so modellism has got quite behind... I was planning to have my battlewagon taken some pictures but gravity beat me and it had a close encounter with my floor unfortunately.. nothing that cannot be fixed with some glue and paint though... ;)

With the release of the new Skaven Armybook I've decided to rebuild my Skave army starting with my all time favourite, the DoomWheel. I've only done some slight modifications like the banner and the scenic base, not wanting to change the retro feeling of the model. Tell me what you think.

I've also finished taking pictures of some of my ork army from the Tournament. Here's the first one, my Bad Moons Battlewagon. Feel free to leave me a comment or a vote on CoolMiniOrNot as well!

I have just finished another commission piece I was working on the past few days. It is one of my all time favorites from Jes Goodwin, Mephiston the lord of death. Nothing fancy here, just what hopefully I think is a clean paintjob. I would appreciate your feedback! ... and maybe some votes in CoolMiniOrNot here

Now it is time to have some work done for the Games Fair that I'm attending to at the end of the month....and that means a LOT of Orks and vehicles :P stay tuned ;)

Hello! Got my hands on my commission stuff as I already told you with the creation of a test model. The sceme came out nicely and I am building the first squad.

As I was progressing though on my other commission piece (yes I got another one :P ) Blood Angels lord Mephisto (more on this chap soon...! ) I suddenly got this idea that can save some trouble. I suppose many of you use pins to hold your models as you paint them. I also suppose that many of you got GW's painting station. Well you can use the holes that you have for the brushes to hold your model straight avoiding splashes and colour smudges. I suppose many of you could have already figured it out but what the heck, I thought I would share this anywayz ... :P

Hi to everyone! Well some of you that probably remember my previous website will find the new look well... new! This is done for quite a lot of reasons but mostly because I would like to create something easier to update and maintain in a good working order, thus I thought of creating a blog.

I'm in the process of doing a lot of stuff ATM (read the first post for more details) and one of these is to modify this space to match my standards :P
