The red in the sky is ours

I borrowed the title of this At the Gates classic album (well, at least for those involved in this kind of music) to entitle this post as it bustles in flak fire!

Not very fond of the anti-air options the latest Space Marine codex brings, I can certainly see some Tau players out there with a faceload of smug when discussing about anti-air options.

Truth is that I recently built a brand new list for my Imperial Fists, based on Lysander of course but trying to fit in as many new toys as I could, including the love them or hate them Centurions.

Having with no more than 70 pts left, the Hunter was an obvious choice to have something in my army to defend against enemy air support. After quite a few games with it I can say that it is a decent choice but nothing ground breaking and definitely you need more than one to have any chance of bringing anything down.

One thing I love about this kit though is that the sprue allows you to build both the options for the Hunter and the Stalker with no conversion work whatsoever (you only need to skip placing a small antenna...) something which surprised me positively as I definitely didn't expect such a kit from Games Workshop. Having this in mind, I decided to build both options at the same time. Here are the results.

As always your comments and/or remarks are greatly appreciated! Don't forget to leave me a vote on CoolMiniOrNot as well

and of course the main inspiration for the title... till next time, take care!

Deep Striking!!

Hello everyone!

Busy as always, here is the first thing I promised I had almost ready in my previous post!

Nothing fancy here, just regular paintjob to fit the rest of my Imperial Fists army! I would love to hear what you think and check it out on CoolMiniOrNot if you like!

I also don't know why but I find the latest Running Wild record really cool! :P

Imperial Fists Centurion Devastators

One thing is for sure! I absolutely love Tournaments for one main reason... its the best motivation to paint things!

It has been AGES since I last finished something I was working on. If you happen to follow my blog you may have noticed that I have started so many projects the past few months, from Fantasy to Greek mythology ... all these will probably finish some day but for now the 40K train got me on board again.

I have just returned from a great Tourney, the results are not important. The most important thing is that I finally managed to finish building some new stuff for my Imperial Fists, and trying a new list. The result of my progress is of course the brand new-love them or hate them- Centurions.

Tabletop quality guys but they should be ready for today so I had to rush them a bit. Anyways, tell me what you think!

and finally some music to keep the good mood going! Till next time, take care!

EDIT: I forgot to post link for the CoolMiniOrNot vote page. If you have time, leave me a vote here: http://www.coolminiornot.com/345867

Hello everybody!

It has been such a roller-coaster ride the past month...work and some renovation work done in my house kept me away from anything hobby related. But this is about to change as I am preparing myself for yet another tournament in a couple of weeks.

The new Space Marine Codex brought some shiny new stuff but it also brought a hefty point increase in my favourite Lysander-Termies list. Therefore I decided to update my list and try some of the new toys I have in my arsenal...

I would really like to hear your opinions on my list.

This means though that I need to build new things, starting with the brand new, love them or hate them, Space Marines Centurions. I must admit that they are an extremely difficult unit to play, as much as they are extremely difficult models to like as well! But I am determined to give them a chance and I think that the Land Raider combo is the only viable solution to play them.

So I have started to build them, straight from the box, and as always I have tried to make a fancier base. The new round base gives plenty of room for scenic details. A pleasant surprise was that I was finally able to use bits from GW's basing kit with these new bases

I pretty much followed the kits instructions so far, only thing I added extra was some photo etched logos from FW's sheet

So, I would love to hear what you think! Keep your eyes peeled for more!

As always some music for inspiration!

New year resolutions

Happy New Year!!... although a little late, I am working hard to make my new year resolutions come true any way I can. So many things going on in my life lately and one of the biggest changes has to do with my beloved hobby itself!

So I recently managed to move to live on my own. That means a lot more personal space for myself and my models :) . That explains my lack of time to get anything finished all this time as I was (and still am) swamped in work and getting things done. But I have managed to get some things into order and I am finally about to make one of my greatest dreams come true, my own personal man-cave! Here is a picture of it so far...

I also haven't shown you the other part of the room, as its still messy as hell :P I recon there should be a couple more days of tiding up and organising stuff untill I am ready to paint or build anything yet... although I know what my first project will be stay tuned! ;)

As it is a trend these days of the year I decided to share again some of the models of 2012 I am mostly happy with ...

Number one on my 2012 list has to be my beloved Caestus Assault Ram. It is my highest rated CoolMiniOrNot model so far, with a mark of  and a feature at the top miniatures of the week, it has been one of the most fun projects last year, and one that really taught me a ton of new stuff, especially about airbrushing!

Number two on that list is definitely my Death Guard Land Raider Barbarus, part of my Pre-Heresy Death guard project, it has been a pleasure to convert and paint, setting the benchmark for the next vehicles to follow!

Here's a small peek...

So that's all from me till now. I know, no new models yet but hopefully I will be able to pull sthg out really soon so keep your eyes peeled ;)

Take care with some late night tunes! Oh and I would love to hear your own New Years resolutions! :)

Small feedback update!

Hello!

I don't usually post things about the feedback I get from my painted minis, but I must add this tidbit of information as this is a dream came true for me. I managed to get one of my minis the Caestus Assault Ram to the top miniatures submitted in CoolMiniOrNot the past week...

I have been dreaming this ever since I started submitting miniatures in CMON. I know its not such a big deal but I wanted to share it with you and of course a very BIG THANK YOU to all of you that voted, commented and maybe shared my miniature!

On a similar sidenote, Stahly's Tale of Painters AWESOME blog featured my Caestus along with other great works!

Last but not least, I finally managed to break the 100 milestone of subscribers to my blog! A big thanks to every single one of you people!

I am really happy with all the feedback I get, and it really makes me inspired to keep on making stuff! Keep your eyes open for future updates! :)

Summer time mood on! XD

Imperial Fists Caestus Assault Ram

Hello to everyone!

As promised I have been busy lately, and although everybody near me prefer to doze off in some beach these days, I just have this urge to finish off as many things possible for my Imperial Fists army. I have been so excited about this model ever since it came out, and it had just been in its bag for so long...but with all this flyer madness that came over me since the 6th edition came out, I have decided to finish it at last!

So without further delays, I present to you my Caestus Assault Ram for my Imperial fists Army!

This model just screams Space Marines. I love every single bit of it! And with all these flying rumors of Forgeworld stuff going official soon, this bad boy will be a definite part of my army list!

As with all my vehicles, I went for a really weathered look, and this model really deserves it to show all the details and of course justifying its ramming functions ;)

The photos could have been better but focusing onto such a huge model is a real pain...

The base is done the same way as my Stormtalon  and hopefully I will make a small tutorial on how I made it in a future post!

As always I would love to see your votes on CoolMiniOrNot http://www.coolminiornot.com/310111 and of course hear your comments and remarks!

...and I don't really know what got into me but I have this track stuck on repeat the past few days :P

Imperial Fists Stormtalon

Hello to everyone!

So here I am, getting dynamically back on track, rebuilding my Imperial Fists force (or rather adding more choices to my existing army) since all this 6th edition goodness came out! I must say that I am quite excited about the new ed. Although not having a lot of experience with the new rules yet, I played a game last night with a good friend of mine and I must say that I came to some nice conclusions. One of these is that Flyers are something really cool! :P

Having all these in mind, I decided to add some flying punch to my Fists... starting with the brand new Stormtalon! I don't know about you but I love the Apache-meets-Space-Marines feeling of it. and this little fella packs quite a few punches in his arsenal.

Overall I'm quite happy with the result, although I had an accident with the varnish, that destroyed the clear plastic of the cockpit... :S In the end I had to paint it over and lose all the painted details on the inside ... oh well, I will be more careful with the next one...!

Next thing would be also a flyer... something I was planning on doing a long time... stay tuned ;)

I would be more than happy to hear what you think and maybe leave me a vote in CoolMiniOrNot? http://www.coolminiornot.com/309561

As for the tunes accompanying me in this build .. well summer time Flogging Molly all the way! enjoy! XD

Vulcan Imperial Fists Conversion

Hello everyone! Its so good to be back on my table and this time I decided to build something that I'm going to need for an upcoming tournament!

I have been playing with my favorite character, none other than Captain Darnath Lysander of course for quite some time now and I decided I needed a change. A Vulcan army list was the next thing that could suit my style of playing... the difficult part was that Vulcan is part of the Salamanders range, so I had to do something that could fit in my sea of yellow :P

Back when Forgeworld started messing around with Badab wars, they released this glorious model and it actually hit me that I should use it as a base to convert to an Imperial Fists version of Vulcan, mainly due to the bad ass mounted flamer that he has...!

For those of you who haven't yet understood the base of the model, yes its Lugft Hyron of the Astral Claws :P

Main problem I faced with the conversion was how on earth I would do the spear, but then along came MaxMini as always to solve my bits problems. The head is also from the MaxMini range of products and I think it fits nicely. The conversion is finished with some of the great Forgeworld photo etched fists that have proven so useful in the past too!

So off to the painting table, what do you think?

I leave you with a song that really speaks to my soul...

Imperial fists Master Of The Forge on bike WIP

Hello once again!

Thought I would take some time off my commissions (although I'm also working on a Flesh Tearers Captain, more on that on future posts) and give my Imperial Fists army some much needed attention.

I have tried using Master Of the Forge with a Conversion Beamer riding a bike and I must say that his long range (or should I say extreme range) killing capacity is lovely! I have therefore decided to make a model to field in my games, but many problems have risen for that, mainly finding the correct weapon for the conversion.

After a quick research, I have found that the original conversion beamer during the good old Horus Heresy days looked more like a Plasma Cannon (the first gun on the picture below). Then it evolved into something really unique in shape, making it rather difficult to convert...

After quite a long research and digging in my bits box I was ... well stuck. There was no way I could just kitbash something like this without looking way too overdone and I wasn't really ready to sculpt or make something from scratch.

But then, when I was browsing my beloved blogosphere... revelation!!

Chapterhouse studios was a company no stranger to me, I have purchased their lovely pre heresy jump packs for a future project (keep an eye for this as well) and now this release was just perfect for what I was looking for.

The kit arrived quite fast having in mind that we had an ocean dividing us. Lots of flash to clean and preparation work to be done but nothing a sharp knife can't handle.

I ended up doing some conversion work to the kit as well, because I would prefer the beamer mounted on the bike itself, not on the backpack.

For the techmarine I used the old metal body from the Blood Angels command boxed set and some legs from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue. Some photo etched imperial fists symbols would give that much needed character to the model.

Finished the model with a Micro Art base. I haven't glued the gun for obvious reasons. Ready to be primed! I would really like to hear what you think on this one. Watch this space for more updates!

Last but not least, some much needed musical inspiration!

Sergeant Torias Telion ~ The Imperial Fists Version

Hello everybody!

Its been quite a while since my last post but here I am with another finished model...

I have been playing quite a lot with my Imperial Fists lately and I have decided to include Sergeant Torias Telion in my list. He is a really handy upgrade for any scout squad and he has served me well so far.

Only problem was that the model (and the fluff of the model for that reason) is an Ultramarine. As with any other characters in the Space Marines codex, that are not Imperial Fists (thats everyone except Lysander actually :P) I have to covert something to play as a "count as" so in this case I had 2 options. One was to create a completely new model from scratch. The other was the one that I eventually followed, take the original Telion model and make it an Imperial Fist Sergeant! I followed this solution since I really like Telion's model, although it eventually was proven to have a really bad casting quality.

After filing off the Ultramarines symbols, I used some photo etched fists to give him the needed flavor and painted him in the appropriate colors. Nothing really fancy in terms of converting but I didn't feel he needed it anyway! Placed him in a MicroArt Old Factory base and voila, ready to lend his expertise to the young and inexperienced scouts!

As always your comments and votes are more than appreciated and welcomed!

Darnath Lysander

I always felt that my Imperial Fists Captain hadn't got the love that it deserved! It was the model that started it all since I saw its release back in the days of 4th edition... I still think that its one of the best models this company ever produced and it was enough to motivate me build a whole army based on it.

...so I thought that now that I am playing with my photo-settings it would be the perfect chance to take some new shots of this old paintjob of mine and get some feedback again.

Everything in this model screams determination and righteousness. Hopefully this would make me motivated to finish my Terminators at last... As always your comments are more than welcome as well as your votes
